cadiz to andalucia
We rented a car in Sevilla and took the road out of Sevilla in search of some beach time. Cadiz (on Costa de la Luz) is a beautiful town with long stretches of beach that are less touristy than the more well known Costa del Sol further to the east. After a few days there we headed inland for the Andalucian White Hill towns. We started in Jerez by visiting the Sandeman sherry bodegas (they don't make the port here) but we got a lesson in how to appropriately appreciate sherry... it's not just the drink grandma has while making dinner. Arcos de la Fronterra was our next stop. It's perched on the top of a hillside and overlooks an overly picturesque valley. Our hotel in Arcos afforded us specatcular views and a quiet patio to enjoy them on.
This morning we set off for more White Hill towns. First we drove to Zahara again, perched precariously on a mountianside overlooking a fabulous valley. We hiked up to the castle that stands over the city for even more views (it was a suuuuuper hot hike, probably not the best idea to attempt at 1pm). We then collected picnic fixins and hit the road again toward Grazalema. We zig-zaged over the narrow pass through the rugged Sierra Nevada de Grazalema mountains and dropped into yet another picture perfect town perched on the edge of a mountain (sensing the theme here yet?). A brief walk around town and a much needed glass of Tinto de Verano and we were back on the road to Ronda. I just bet you can guess the type of location this town has... I can honestly say that it doesn't get boring. We haven't yet explored it as it's siesta time but we're waiting out the sun and planning on adventuring out this evening.
adios!
